Scholarships

Scandia Camp Mendocino offers 3 types of scholarships.
Criteria for each varies. Please see below for details.

Please be sure to register for camp either before or as you apply for a scholarship.
Camp registration is required for a scholarship to be considered.

Applications for the Scandia Scamp Mendocino and Linscott scholarships
must be received by March 20, 2024.
Successful applicants will be notified by April 20, 2024.

Applications for work scholarships are on a first come basis
as long as there are positions available.

1. Work Scholarships
Work scholarships involve spending a few hours each day doing a variety of tasks to help Scandia Camp Mendocino run smoothly. It is a great way to meet people at camp and help out at the same time. To apply for a work scholarship, check the appropriate boxes on the camp application/registration form.

2. The Scandia Camp Mendocino Scholarship(s)
This scholarship is intended to help those who are active or becoming active in the Scandinavian dance and music community and who may need financial assistance to attend. The scholarship will cover partial payment towards camp fees with the number awarded determined each year by the camp directors based on the availability of funds. Students are particularly encourage to apply.

A letter describing how the applicant and/or their Scandinavian dance and music community will benefit from their experience at Scandia Camp Mendocino should be sent to:

3. Nancy Linscott Scholarship
The Directors of Scandia Camp Mendocino are pleased to announce the availability of the Nancy Linscott Scholarship for Scandia Camp Mendocino. This scholarship fund was established by campers and friends to honor Nancy Linscott, the founder of Scandia Camp and its director for twenty years. One scholarship, in the amount of $350, is awarded.

Anyone is welcome to apply for this scholarship. Nominations (with the prior permission of the nominee) are also encouraged. The successful applicant will meet at least one of the criteria listed below. A letter requesting consideration for the scholarship should describe the applicant/nominee in relation to the criteria, and should be sent to:

Criteria:
  • Has made significant contributions to their local Scandinavian dance/music community
  • Has fostered appreciation and understanding of Scandinavian music and dance through lectures, publications or performance
  • Has successfully worked to bring new and young people into the Scandinavian dance & music community
  • Has contributed time and effort to the smooth running of Scandia Camp Mendocino
  • Has successfully encouraged new dancers or musicians to come to Scandia Camp Mendocino
