Mari Ormberg

Mari Ormberg is one of the most important tradition bearers of the Norwegian Hardanger Fiddle music. She has studied the oldest forms of the tradition since she was growing up amongst her award-winning parents (Luster kommunes kulturpris) and grandparents (Folkemusikkprisen til Sogn og Fjordane folkemusikklag). Topping it with a Bachelor in performing folk music and a Master’s in Traditional folk art.

Ormberg is one of the most active Hardanger Fiddle players of Norway, situated in the region of Valdres. She is frequently playing in concerts and competitions, has released three CD’s, and is often used for playing for dance in classes, parties and for competitions (kappleik). She is also a member of the best Hardanger Fiddle group in Norway for the last decade, "Spelemannslaget til fremjing for møsagrodde låttar". Ormberg is working as a curator at Valdres Folk museum, where she plays for thousands of tourists every summer.

Mari will play and teach the music for the Valdres dances at Scandia Camp 2024.
